CP4P International Productions - 2023 Residency Donations

At CP4P International Productions, we develop and tour new, original theatrical works inspired by cultures in crisis due to political conflict and/or ecological disasters. The goal of our work is to protect, preserve, and promote cultures in danger through theatrical creations which stimulate curiosity and dialogue.

Our performance and workshops provide cultural access to historically relevant subject matter and international performance styles. Furthermore, we provide community outreach to refugee communities through Theatre of Cultural Resistance workshops, lectures, free or sliding scale admission to our events, as well as hiring extra personnel for our tour from the refugee communities in the towns where we perform.

For the 2023-2024 season, our focus is on the Kurdistan region in Iraq. Our performance is inspired by the epic poem Gilgamesh, the contemporary Kurdish poet Kajal Ahmad, and documentary accounts from Kurdish women.

I need a street

Empty of bloodstains,

A street that has never seen

Or known terror.

Let it be flawless, let it be flawless, flawless

Like the sex of these girls that are killed unjustly

Let it be long, let it be long, long,

Like their agony.

-Kajal Ahmad

In Halabja, Iraq, in March of 1988, Saddam Hussein’s regime committed an atrocious genocide of Kurdish peoples through the use of chemical weapons. Set in a carpet store at this time, I will dance with those oak trees as long as takes us on a poetic voyage into the life of three Kurdish women, inspired by the poetry of Kajal Ahmad and the characters Gilgamesh, Enkidu, and Ninsun from the world’s most ancient epic poem: Gilgamesh. Carpets, chairs, and strings create the environment in which two actresses interpret the three different women and how they react to a violent and unstable outside world. Accompanied by soundscapes inspired by traditional Kurdish music, this international duo uses objects, puppets, and a multilayered world of reality, dreams, memories, and visions to explore the question of what it means to be a hero when you have no other choice.

We will be in residency in the US from October 2023 to February 2024, in partnership with World Affairs Council, Literacy Pittsburgh, and the International Free Expression Project (Pittsburgh, PA), Adams Theater, (Adams, MA), ArtYard (Frenchtown, NJ), The Tank (NYC), the John David Mooney Foundation and CEC Artslink (Chicago, IL), and the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts (Washington DC).

We are fiscally sponsored by 501(c)(3) non-profit organization coLAB Arts, Inc. All donations are tax-deductible.
